Footnotes (revisions) is a response to the University’s Carolina Hall didactic which illustrates a brief history of the events leading up to the Saunders’ Hall name change. Footnotes offers an addendum to that incomplete narrative, employing a diverse range of materials sourced directly from Wilson Library, and student activist groups, affording the public a more comprehensive account of the Carolina/Hurston/Saunders Hall history. Additionally, this exhibition seeks to recognize and validate the intellectual and emotional labor of several generations of student activists who ultimately succeeded in convincing the University to change the building’s name.
